You most probably have heard parents, teachers or neighbors saying “Stop wasting your time on useless stuff and do something more productive” whenever they see kids gaming, dancing, or using the computer. They are absolutely right! Unfortunately, it is directed with a limited worldview of what “productive” actions are. This causes negativity because being productive usually implies something boring and menial such as doing your homework, cleaning the house or reading a book.
What if productive means doing the fun things you love?
I’m totally blown away by this TED talk. It might be a little long, but its entertaining all the way. I promise
Jane McGonigal : Gaming can make a better world
Being productive just means doing something that matters
That means you just have to make what you are doing matter. To do that, all you need to do is to share your passion in an unique way, as a gift to the world. Take a little effort and try to think of ways where you can take what is “unproductive” right now and make it something at least some people in the world will appreciate.
Whether its dancing, watching anime or loving all things korean, it has value which is uniquely YOU. So, even though its free dance lessons every week, reviewing your favourite anime, blogging things you learned; everything you share becomes important to at least someone.
So make that move today, time to step out of the box you’re living in.
